SUPPORTED TAPES

Which VHS formats we accept

If you are not sure what tape you have, send a photograph of its front, back and labels before shipping.

VHS

Standard VHS cassettes

Full-size home-video tapes used in domestic video recorders. We capture the recording and prepare practical MP4 files.

VHS-C

Compact VHS-C camera tapes

Smaller tapes from older camcorders. VHS-C is not the same as Video8, Hi8 or MiniDV; send a photo if uncertain.

S-VHS

S-VHS and S-VHS-C

Higher-band VHS-family formats require compatible playback equipment and a realistic assessment of the original signal.

CHECK

Damaged or mouldy tapes

Do not force a jammed, broken or mouldy cassette into a player. Send photos and a description so we can assess the next safe step.

DIGITAL OUTPUT

What you receive

The result is prepared for everyday viewing, copying, backup and sharing with family.

MP4

Organised MP4 files

Widely compatible files for computers, phones, smart TVs, external drives and cloud backup.

USB

Optional USB delivery

A convenient physical copy for parents, relatives or a gift. We still recommend keeping a second backup elsewhere.

ORIGINALS

Original tapes returned

Tapes are returned after the agreed work. Files can be named by cassette number, year or event when labels are available.

REALISTIC QUALITY

What digitisation can and cannot improve

A careful transfer preserves the available picture and sound, but it cannot recreate detail that was never recorded or has disappeared from a damaged tape.

TAPE

Condition of the magnetic tape

Age, humidity, heat, dust, mould and repeated playback influence stability and visible defects.

SOURCE

Quality of the original recording

Camera focus, lighting, recording speed and the original equipment set an upper limit on the final picture and sound.

CAPTURE

Reliable real-time transfer

Our goal is stable playback, correct picture and sound, and a usable digital file—not an artificial promise of perfect restoration.

Important before testing old tapes

If a tape sticks, smells damp, shows mould or has a cracked shell, do not play or rewind it again. Additional attempts may damage the tape and contaminate the player.

TRANSPARENT PRICING

Indicative VHS transfer prices

The charge is based on the greater of tape count or recorded hours because every tape must be played in real time.

Quantity or recorded timeNet price per tape/hourPrice incl. 22% Slovenian VAT
1–10 tapes or hours10.00 €12.20 €
11–25 tapes or hours9.00 €10.98 €
26–50 tapes or hours8.00 €9.76 €
More than 50 tapes or hours7.00 €8.54 €

Indicative prices apply to VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS and S-VHS-C. USB media, shipping, extensive repairs and exceptional handling are quoted separately. The final amount is confirmed after the quantity, running time and condition are known.

VAT for EU business customers

Prices show both net amounts and the total including 22% Slovenian VAT. A business established in another EU member state may be invoiced net under the reverse-charge mechanism after its valid EU VAT number and the applicable conditions have been verified. Private customers and orders that do not meet those conditions pay the gross amount.

FROM TAPE TO FILE

How the process works

We confirm the scope before work, inspect the tapes, capture them in real time and return the originals with the agreed files.

01

Send the basic information

Tell us the approximate number and type of tapes, their condition, and whether you prefer MP4 files, USB delivery or both.

02

Agree on drop-off or shipping

You can deliver tapes by appointment in Ig, Slovenia, or send a tracked, well-protected parcel after confirmation.

03

Inspection before playback

We identify formats and look for broken shells, jammed tape, mould or other issues that require a separate decision.

04

Real-time capture and preparation

Each recording is played and captured in real time, then prepared as an organised digital file.

05

Delivery and return

You receive the agreed files or USB media and the original tapes are returned using the agreed method.

DROP-OFF / SHIPPING

Send tapes safely from Slovenia or abroad

Contact us before sending a parcel so the contents, delivery format and return address are clear.

How to pack VHS tapes

Leave tapes in their cases where possible, use a rigid outer box and fill empty spaces so the cassettes cannot move. Include your name, phone, email, return address and a simple tape list. Use tracked shipping and keep your receipt.

Shipments from outside the EU, including Serbia and North Macedonia, may require customs documentation. Describe the contents accurately as personal analogue originals temporarily sent for digitisation and check the carrier’s current rules before dispatch.

FAQ

Answers before you send your tapes

The most common questions about formats, quality, prices, files, damaged tapes and shipping.

Which tapes do you accept?

VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS and S-VHS-C are the core formats. Video8, Hi8, Digital8 and MiniDV are different systems; send a photograph and we can direct you to the appropriate service.

Will the digital video look better than the tape?

The transfer can provide stable and convenient playback, but the result remains limited by the original recording and the condition of the magnetic tape. Lost detail cannot be recreated.

Why is recorded time relevant to the price?

A VHS tape must be played in real time. If the total recording time is greater than the tape count, the actual hours become the charging basis.

Can you put the recordings on a USB drive?

Yes. MP4 files can be delivered on USB. For long-term safety, copy them to at least one additional drive or storage location.

What should I do with a mouldy or broken tape?

Do not put it into a player and do not try to clean or rewind it. Send clear photographs and describe what happened so the tape can be assessed first.

Do you return the original tapes?

Yes. Original cassettes are returned after the agreed work unless a different arrangement is explicitly made.

Can I send tapes from another country?

Yes, after prior agreement. Use robust packaging and tracked shipping. Parcels from outside the EU may require customs documentation.

How should I back up the finished files?

Keep at least two copies on different devices or locations. A USB drive alone should not be the only long-term archive.

An approximate tape count, a photograph of unclear formats and your preferred delivery method are enough for the first assessment.
